It is well known that the cases of Dementia are increasing alongside the ageing population and Venturi Health Care Group are determined to find interesting ways to ensure residents living within all our homes are provided with a stimulating environment. There may not be cure for this devastating illness as yet but we can try to find ways to ease the symptoms.
Rivington Park Care Home hold regular music events and August was no different! The whole month was filled with various musical themed events including celebrating the 60th anniversary of John Lennon and Paul McCartney partnering up to form The Beatles. The day included sing alongs, OOMPH exercise classes whilst listening to some of The Beatles most famous singles and later settling down to watch “A Hard Days Night” movie.
Later in the month it was time to celebrate the King, Elvis. Residents took part in a themed quiz all about Elvis and his songs as well as taking part in arts and crafts with an Elvis theme. Residents and family members joined in and the day was thoroughly enjoyed by all. The Chef rustled up some Elvis themed food such as “All Shook Up” milkshakes and “Hound Dog” hot dogs!
These events really do make a difference to peoples everyday living. The power of music, singing and dancing is substantial when it comes to unlocking memories as it seems to communicate with people in ways speech and talking cannot.
